APARTAMENTO ISSUE #35 SPRING/SUMMER 2025
スペイン発、2008年に創刊した年二回刊行のインテリア雑誌『Apartamento』。第35号の表紙は、フランス人アーティストであるカミーユ・アンロ（Camille Henrot）が飾り、マンハッタン、アッパー・ウエスト・サイドに位置する自邸で、ベルリンを拠点に活動する美術批評家のエステル・ホイ（Estelle Hoy）と話す様子が写されている。このシュールな風景を撮影したのは、ニューヨークを拠点とするフォトグラファーのヘザー・ステン（Heather Sten）であり、同誌史上最多4度目のカバー・フォトグラファーとなる。アンロの新作映像作品「In the Veins」の公開に先駆け、素晴らしき「日々のケアに繋がる行動」によって形作られる未来を想像し、巻頭特集で語る。
毎号異なるデザインで彩られる本誌背表紙の絵柄は、アメリカ人シンガー・ソングライターであるディートン・クリス・アンソニー（Deaton Chris Anthony）によって描かれたテキストを採用。大きく、そしてホログラムのように輝く文字が目を惹く。イギリスのシンガー・ソングライターであるチャーリー・XCX (Charli XCX) らと行ったコラボレーションへの洞察とともに、アンソニーの別名義での活動の裏話を初めて公開した「admin reveal（※註）」が添えられている。
モロッコ出身の作家、ジャーナリストであり、フェミニスト活動家としても知られるレイラ・スリマニ（Leïla Slimani）は、同じく作家でジャーナリスト、そして詩人、画家でもあるジーナ・カイヤー（Jina Khayyer）とともにパリからリスボンへ移住したことを振り返る。拠点を変えたのは、作家としてフランスで名が知られていることで生じていた制約から逃れるための試みだという。「アーティストにとって、すべてを理解しているような文脈の中で生活するのはよくないこと。」彼女は語る。「自分が全ての規範を持っているようなところでは。」
第二の故郷、グアテマラにて「APARTAMENTO」の呼びかけに応えたのは、アルゼンチン生まれスイス育ちのアーティストであるヴィヴィアン・ズーター（Vivian Suter）だ。2025年6月に「パレ・ド・トーキョー（Palais de Tokyo）」で開催される、ズーターにとってこれまでで最大規模の回顧展「DISCO」に向けた準備を進める中で、その芸術性や、ズーターの「強化され塗り固められた衣服...彼女の鎧」について語られてきた神話を払拭する。
イラン生まれフランス育ち、のちアメリカで活動してきた撮影監督のダリウス・コンジ（Darius Khondji）は「暗黒の王子（Prince of Darkness）」として知られているが、今回、映画プロデューサーでありシナリオライターのジーコ・ジャッジ（Zico Judge）とキャリアを跨いだ貴重な対談を行った。その様子をフォトグラファー、フィルムメーカーであるフランク・ルボン（Frank Lebon）が18ページにおよぶスライドに収め、丁寧にカットして繋ぎ合わせてまとめている。
映画『ロブスター（原題：The Lobster）』、『聖なる鹿殺し キリング・オブ・ア・セイクリッド・ディア（原題：The Killing of a Sacred Deer）』を手がけた脚本家であるエフティミス・フィリップ（Efthimis Filippou）がオリジナル脚本「14 Stout Men」を書き下ろし、即興でお決まりのQ&Aを行う。長年の友人であり共同製作者でもある映画監督のヨルゴス・ランティモス（Yorgos Lanthimos）が撮影を担当している。
デザイナーであるラウル・ロペス（Raul Lopez）は、フォトグラファー、ディレクターであるレネル・メドラノ（Renell Medrano）が住むニューヨークのアパートでポーズを取りながら、作家兼編集者のマイケル・ブロック（Michael Bullock）との対談でファッション界での目覚ましい活躍を振り返る。
スティーヴ・ベイリー（Steve Bailey）によるインタビューでは、アーティストでありライター、スケートボーダーのジョッコ・ウェイランド（Jocko Weyland）が、建築家のケンドリック・バングス・ケロッグ（Kendrick Bangs Kellogg）によって建てられた南カリフォルニアの宇宙船のようなモダニズム建築のような家へと宇宙の旅に出る様子を描いている。
作家のロバート・プランケット（Robert Plunket）を紹介するストーリー「The Divine Art of Living」は、30年ぶりとなる著作を独占取材。文学界における伝説が帰還を遂げる。本誌の編集を務めるノア・T・ブリトン（Noah T. Britton）との対談で、代表作『My Search for Warren Harding』、『Love Junkie』を振り返る。

また、作家であり映画ディレクターのドゥルガ・チュー・ボーズ（Durga Chew-Bose）、『Apartamento』の共同創設者であり写真家、出版者、クリエイティブディレクターのナチョ・アレグレ（Nacho Alegre）、ファッション批評家兼ジャーナリストのチャーリー・ポーター（Charlie Porter）、短編小説家のシルビナ・オカンポ（Silvina Ocampo）- 訳：スザンヌ・ジル・レヴィーン（Suzanne Jill Levine）、映画監督であるリナ・ソウアレム（Lina Soualem）、作家のイーリン・ワン（Yilin Wang）、小説家のネイト・リッペン（Nate Lippens）、小山田浩子 - 訳：デヴィッド・ボイド（David Boyd）による文章を収録する。

The new issue features a costumed duo on the cover belonging to artist Camille Henrot, who speaks with Estelle Hoy from her home on the Upper West Side of Manhattan. Surreal domestic scenes are captured by Heather Sten, marking her fourth Apartamento cover, the most of any photographer in the magazine’s history. Ahead of the launch of her latest film, In the Veins, Henrot imagines a future shaped by epic ‘actions of daily care’. A supersized and shiny text by Deaton Chris Anthony appears on the magazine’s spine, accompanying an ‘admin reveal’ by the musician that marks his first time sharing the story behind his alias, alongside insights on his collaborations with Charli XCX and more.
Leïla Slimani reflects on moving from Paris to Lisbon with Jina Khayyer, an attempt to escape the confines of her fame as a writer: ‘It’s not good for an artist to live in a context where you understand everything’, she says, ‘where you have all the codes’. Taking up that call in her adopted home of Guatemala, Vivian Suter dispels the myths that have been made about her art, her ‘stiffened, paint-covered garments...her armour’ as she prepares for the largest-scale retrospective of her work to date, opening this June at Palais de Tokyo.
Celebrated cinematographer Darius Khondji, the renowned ‘Prince of Darkness’, meets with Zico Judge for a rare, career-spanning conversation, their time together captured in a 18- page-long film strip, carefully cut and spliced together by Frank Lebon. An original screenplay by Efthimis Filippou riffs on the standard Q&A, as the writer behind The Lobster and The Killing of a Sacred Deer faces off against ‘14 Stout Men’, featuring photography by his longtime friend and collaborator, Yorgos Lanthimos.
Raul Lopez reflects on his ascent through the fashion world as he poses for Renell Medrano in his New York City apartment, where he appears in conversation with Michael Bullock. In his interview with Steve Bailey, Jocko Weyland paints an extraterrestrial odyssey to the part spacecraft, part modernist home built by Kendrick Bangs Kellogg in southern California.
A new story by Robert Plunket offers an exclusive look at the writer’s first book in over three decades, marking the return of a literary legend. He reflects on his landmark novels, My Search for Warren Harding and Love Junkie, in conversation with Apartamento editor Noah T. Britton.
